2025 Lick Tub Challenge winners

Creativity and innovation were rewarded at the 2025 Lick Tub Challenge, hosted by the North Central RC&D. Held in conjunction with the Sandhills Ranch Expo, repurposed lick tubs were converted from waste and judged on originality and functionality.

Troopers make 32 DUI arrests during Independence Day weekend

JULY 8, 2025 (LINCOLN, NEB.) — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed 32 impaired drivers from the road over the Independence Day Weekend. “This weekend included celebrations across the state and many people who made the wise decision to avoid driving impaired,” said Colonel Bryan Waugh, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol.

BSH Kilgore refutes Cherry County Zoning Administrator on Kilgore wind energy project

Thursday,July3,2025KILGORE, NEBRASKA — BSH Kilgore, LLC strongly refutes the findings of a letter issued by the Cherry County Zoning Administrator regarding the Kilgore wind energy project. The Administrator’s assertions that the conditional use permit has expired and that BSH Kilgore has not complied with the permit’s conditions are factually inaccurate and unsupported by the public record. Moreover, the Administrator failed to contact BSH Kilgore prior to issuing the letter to ask questions or obtain documentation to inform the letter.

On Independence Day approximately 50 citizens met to “read and ring” celebrating 249 years of living in a free republic. Miss Poppy Laramie Foster and sister Little Miss Poppy in Waiting Isa Foster opened the program with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Haley Family Reunion recap

The 44th Haley Family Reunion was held June 21, 2025 in the fellowship hall of the Valentine Methodist Church. A noon meal was enjoyed Saturday by 39 descendants of Albert and Maude Haley.
