The purpose of the Cross

We think of one of the crudest forms of execution ever devised by mankind; we think of our Lord andyavior; Jesus Christ dying for us at Calvary.

DAR encourages participation with Two Lights

Sandhills Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution encourage celebrating and remembering the famous and the Battle s of Lexington and Concord that signaled the start of the American Revolution. Let us ceremoniously display Two Lights as a reminder of the lanterns shining in the darkness from Boston’s North Church 250 years ago on April 18.

Badgers earn many awards at State FFA

The Valentine Badgers traveled to Lincoln the first week in April to attend State FFA. Team and individual awards are as follows: State Degree recipients - Kennedie Assman, John Fulton, Jenalee Garwood, Emma Kreutner, Doc Lancaster, Kimber McGinley, Quinton Nelson, Rylie Sexson, Cadence Swanson, Thane Taylor.

Minnechaduza Creek Bridge progress report

Minnechaduza Creek Bridge Structure Number. S012 00398 STP-12-2(106) CN 80944 ID 80944 Progress report: Day 219 of 263 Work continues, when weather permits (moisture always welcome), on construction of the new concrete girder bridge three miles east of Valentine (HWY 12). Bridge construction is nearing completion, placement of the concrete surfacing to the bridge structure will be completed next week. As strength of concrete is gained, traffic will resume travel across the bridge, with the remaining construction work done under traffic control for work zones.

Funding for rural areas

Some of you may have been at last week’s Valentine City Council meeting, where there was extensive discussion regarding funding. Many wonder where the funding comes from for Open Plains Transit to operate.

West 4th Street construction update

constructing highway US-83 which requires removing and replacing the existing concrete pavement. The project also includes improvements to sidewalks, storm sewer, roadway lighting, and repairs to the bridge over Minnechaduza Creek. The City of Valentine plans to update city-owned sanitary sewer and water main along US-83/4th Street concurrently with this project. The project will be constructed in phases. The phase from the US 83 and N-12 junction to Edna Street will require complete closure and traffic will be detoured on Cherry, West 3rd, and Edna Streets. The phase from Edna Street to the end of the project will be constructed under traffic with lane closures controlled by temporary traffic signals. Access to adjacent properties will be maintained during construction but may be limited at times due to phasing requirements. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and to put phones down.
