During the week of April 6 - 12, the following arrests were reported: • On April 7, officers responded to a disturbance on East 9th Street in Valentine. An 18 year old Nebraska man was arrested on charges of Domestic Assault and Resisting Arrest.

Bomgaars ladies night gives back

Valentine, NE – In the fall, Bomgaars held a Night of Festive and Fun Shopping just for ladies. Bomgaars joined with Cherry County Hospital to raise awareness of women’s health issues and passed along a 20 percent discount for the women in attendance from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. A donation of the evening’s total sales was pledged back to the Oncology Department at Cherry County Hospital.

Draft Environmental Assessment available for cooperative agriculture activities at Fort Niobrara NWR

VALENTINE, Neb.— The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced the availability of a draft Environmental Assessment, for public review and comment, that evaluates cooperative agriculture activities at Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge in Nebraska. Public comments on the draft Environmental Assessment will be accepted for 30 days, from April 1 through April 30, 2025.

Rotary Interact Club Donates to Sandhills Cancer Fund

Generosity and community spirit took center stage at a recent Valentine Rotary Club meeting, where members of the Interact Club and Sandhills Cancer Fund’s treasurer, Kasey Dawson, were welcomed as guests. The Interact Club, a youth-led community service organization, presented a $732 donation to the Sandhills Cancer Fund. The funds were raised through the club’s previous successful Color Runs, dues, and public donations accumulated over the past few years.

USDA offers disaster assistance to farmers, ranchers impacted by wildfires

Cherry County, NE - The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has assistance available to help Nebraska farmers and ranchers recover from recent wildfires. Producers impacted by these events should contact the local USDA Service Center to report losses and learn more about program options available to assist in their recovery from crop, land, infrastructure and livestock losses and damages.
