Several in the Lakeview area lost out on their Sunday afternoon nap when the word FIRE was heard. A fire started just east of the Lakeview School heading northeast. Fortunately it was spotted early, and fast action by local residents and the Rosebud Fire Department put it out in good time. God bless the helpers! The dry conditions are definitely a concern, and more moisture is desperately needed.

Call for Quilts of Valor blocks for Chadron Festival

Martha Quay, Quilts of Valor (QOV) Subcommittee Chairperson for the 2025 Chadron Festival of Quilts announced a call for area quilters to assist in making blocks for Quilts of Valor. Each year the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF) designates an official block.

Tire amnesty scheduled for April 30 and May 1

An opportunity to easily and responsibly dispose of used tires is coming to Valentine, NE. The North Central Nebraska RC&D in cooperation with the Middle Niobrara NRD is hosting a tire amnesty event with grant assistance from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy. The collections are scheduled for Wednesday, April 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Thursday, May 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

David City man arrested in child sexual assault investigation

MARCH 14, 2025 (LINCOLN, NEB.) — Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested a David City man following an investigation of sexual assault of a child. In late January, NSP received information from law enforcement in South Dakota that led to the investigation.

Grand Island Diocese Catholic Women’s Assembly to focus on prayer pathways

Record setting snow fall with 7.3 inches

If you were really quiet - really, really, quiet, you could hear the thirsty ground soaking in all the moisture that we were blessed with. Last week was interesting - or madness - with blizzard like conditions, Tuesday, March 4, which left a total of 2.2 inches of snow behind, and .21 inches of moisture. The winds were gusty, with the highest at 50 mph.

As COO, my responsibilities included multiple departments, which expanded over time and included: Plant Operations, Environmental Services or housekeeping, IT, and eventually ended up with dietary, all our clinics, and rehabilitation departments. I managed several projects including minor renovations, a kitchen-cafeteria remodel, different clinic projects, a daycare for our employees children, and a new electronic health record change. It was a cool experience.”
