4-H Special Food results

The 2025 Cherry County 4-H Special Foods Competition was held June 3, at the United Methodist Church in Valentine. Youth participated in a variety of categories. The day started on a sweet note with the “cupcake wars” where youth presented their most delectable recipes with a fun theme.

President’s, Dean’s lists released from Northeast

Northeast Community College in Norfolk has released the President’s HonorListandDean’sHonor List for both full– and part–time students for the Spring 2025 semester. To be named to the President’s Honor List, students must earn a grade point average of 4.0 and be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours.

Celebrate Father’s Day in unique ways

Father’s Day is a celebration of dads near and far. Falling on the third Sunday of June each year, Father’s Day presents an opportunity for families to come together and put the spotlight on fathers who work tirelessly for their children and provide them with love and support. Father’s Day also is a chance to honor the men who serve as father figures or play special roles in people’s lives.

During the week of June 1 - 7, 2025 the following arrests were reported by the Valentine Police Deparment: • On June 3 at approximately 1:25 a.m., a 42 year old South Dakota woman was arrested on the charges of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Possession of an Open Alcohol Container. • On June 5 at 3:18 p.m., officers responded to a trespassing complaint in the 900 block of West B Street in Valentine.

Dogs temporarily restricted on WMAs

Nebraska Game and Parks reminds outdoors enthusiasts that dogs are not allowed on state wildlife management areas from May 1 through July 31, except in “authorized dog training areas.” The seasonal restriction aims to protect wildlife during breeding and nesting season. Authorized dog training areas are marked by signage; other than in these designated areas, it is unlawful to exercise, run, train or hunt with dogs on the property.

Troopers remove 80 impaired drivers during Make it Click campaign

JUNE 3, 2025, LINCOLN — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) removed 80 impaired drivers from the road during the Make It Click campaign. During the campaign, which ran from May 12 through June 1, troopers arrested 80 drivers for driving under the influence.
