You’re all invited to the inaugural Dad Pageant!

Not everyone can think outside the arena...but Cherry County Rodeo Royalty sure did whey they challenged the Rodeo Dads to their very own pageant, this Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. Doors are open at 4:30 p.m. You also have the opportunity to mingle with the “beautiful” contestants. Supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. and its described as hearty.

2025 inductees of the Nebraska Sandhills Cowboy Hall of Fame

Stanley Mellor Huffman November 2, 1921 - August 13, 2005 Stan was born November 2, 1921 in Elgin, NE to Stanley and Zoe Mellor Huffman. He grew up in Elgin and graduated from Elgin High School. He earned a degree from the ag college at the University of Nebraska.

Samuel Spencer Miles - March 13, 1931

Sam was born at a house in Thedford, NE on March 13, 1931 to Austin and Mae Miles, joining four older siblings: Lester, Eldora, Robert and Merle Marie. The first seven years of his life was at the soddy, an actual four room sod house northeast of Brownlee, NE. In 1938 Austin bought the old Doc Higgins place five miles southeast of Brownlee. This ranch is, to this day, referred to as the “home place.”

Valentine, Neb., May 20, 2025— Operation Christmas Child, a project of international Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse, delivers gift-filled shoeboxes to millions of children in need each year. For years, Valentine families have packed shoebox gifts for boys and girls around the world. One of these gifts reached Lorena Surducan in Romania when she was a young girl. Surducan is now visiting Valentine residents to share how the simple gift had a life-changing impact.
