Anthony David “Tony” Eklund, 52

Anthony David ‘Tony’ Eklund was born to Bernard Albert ‘Bernie’ and Vicky Lynn (Regan) Eklund October 24, 1972, at the Baptist Hospital of Winner, SD. Dr. Stiehl delivered the nine pound seven ounce boy. He told the parents to get that boy on mashed potatoes when he got home.

Tony was raised in Valentine, and attended school at Valentine’s schools, graduating in 1991. He was a good athlete and also school was easy for him. He went to the University of South Dakota in Vermillion one semester and then L Triple C in Casper, WY for a short time.

He worked for Kozal Construction, doing mostly concrete construction. He was knowledgeable in several types of construction. He also enjoyed several ranch jobs. Tony was basically a big kid and enjoyed a good time. In the last few years, his big project has been raising a big cross on Frederick’s Peak near Valentine.

He passed away at his home December 27, 2024 from weakened immune system of natural flu-type symptoms. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vicky.

Tony is survived by his father Bernie Eklund of Valentine; brother Jarred Eklund (Shaquinta) of Watonga, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine.

Holmes Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.
