Chevron Rentfro Sherman was born on February 13, 1951 to Zelpha M. (Rentfro) Sherman and Richard B. Sherman in Alliance, NE. Chevron left for heaven on June 2, 2025.

Chev rode his horse to country school at Big Creek School District 66 just south of the North Loup River. Upon completion of the eighth grade, he attended Mullen High School. Chev played football and wrestled during high school. After graduation Chev spent two years at Sidney Vo-Tech school learning diesel mechanics. Upon graduation from Sidney, he enlisted in the Navy Seabees. Chev spent 15 months in Viet Nam. When he came back to Cherry County he worked on Big Creek Ranch for Sid Rice, also for Don Sullivan and Wolfenden Ranch. He worked for a couple of diesel shops in North Platte while he was getting his pilot’s license. After he got his pilot’s license he went to Alliance to fly oil pipeline patrol for Dwain Adam. Chev also spent time in Cheyenne earning a type rating in larger twin engine planes and drove a school bus route to pay for his pilot expenses.

In May of 1984, he moved to Omaha to fly freight; while there he met Lis Hamaker. After a short courtship they were married on November 10, 1984. He and his new wife moved to the ranch full-time and remained there until they retired in 2021. Chev was talented in adapting what was available to make equipment or tools he needed to ranch with. Chev was always a good neighbor and friend. He loved to share a good story, usually about the crazy things that happen when working with people and cattle. When he finished his story, you felt as though you had witnessed it with him. In 2001, Chevron was baptized and joined First Baptist Church in Valentine. He spent countless hours reading the Bible and learning to love the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents Rich and Zelpha Sherman; brother, Philip; inlaws, John Hamaker, Jr., and Mary Lee Hamaker; and brother-in-law, John Hamaker, III.

Chev is survived by his wife Lis, and sister-in-law Christi (Jim) Hardy.

Services were conducted by Pastor Tim Wilkinson at the Valentine First Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Interment with full military honors by the Cherry County Veterans followed at Mount Hope Cemetery, Valentine.
