Hollie D. Holscher Hanna, 74

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hollie Dale Holscher Hanna, who died on July 20, 2025, at the age of 74, at Great Plains Health Center in North Platte, NE.

Hollie was born on August 18, 1950, in Ogallala, NE to Paige Corinne Mehl Holscher and Richard LaVonne Holscher. She married Jeffrey Richard Hanna on March 20, 1976, in Kearney, NE. Together they had one daughter, Brook Tyler Hanna.

Hollie was raised in Ogallala, NE, and proudly graduated from Ogallala High School. She earned a degree in Sociology from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and obtained her teaching certificate from Kearney State College in Kearney, NE.

Hollie began her career in the North Platte School System, where she taught until the family moved to Valentine in 1989. There, she continued her work in education with the Valentine Community Schools and later completed a master’s degree in Reading Recovery at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Though she retired early, Hollie soon found herself to restless to stay away from the classroom and returned to teaching in Cherry County’s rural schools before retiring a second time in 2012.

In 2013, Hollie embraced a new chapter of life, becoming a grandmother. She deeply loved her grandchildren and took great joy in being part of their lives. She traveled whenever she could to spend time with them, never missing a chance to attend birthdays, school events, or simply enjoy everyday moments.

A lifelong Lutheran, Hollie’s faith was an enduring source of comfort and direction. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thedford, NE, where she attended services. She especially enjoyed her time with the “Lunch Bunch,” a group of ladies from North Platte who gathered for fellowship, encouragement, and lessons about living faithfully. Hollie embraced the way of life of a rancher, finding joy in the animals she cared for and the land she loved. She had a special fondness for her first horse, Flash, and loved helping move cattle before turning her attention to the everyday work of running the ranch. She cherished the abundant wildflowers and the natural beauty that surrounded her, often taking time to sit quietly on the porch with a book in hand and her dogs at her feet.

Hollie is survived by her husband, Jeffrey R. Hanna; daughter, Brook T. Hanna (Scott Olson); grandchildren, Blake, Grant, and Sloan Olson Hanna; and brother, Kelly Holscher (Pam).
