The results of the NSAA Class C District 1 for Valentine 106 - Brayden Stec 15-11, placed 3rd and scored 14.0 team points. Quarterfinal - Brayden Stec of Valentine, won by major decision over Baldwin Garcia of Wakefield, 13-13, MD 12-2.

Valentine waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They breezed past the North Central Knights to the tune of 76-16. Valentine has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 22 points or more this season.

UNMC announces fall 2025 Dean's List

The University of Nebraska Medical Center has announced its fall 2025 Dean’s List for students enrolled in the colleges of nursing, dentistry, pharmacy and allied health professions. To qualify for the Dean’s List, nursing and the allied health students must be enrolled for 12 or more hours during the semester and have a grade point average of 3.75 or above.

March 1 is priority deadline for MPCC scholarships

March 1 is the priority deadline to turn in a scholarship application for the 2026-27 school year at Mid-Plains Community College. More than $1,000,000 worth of scholarships are up for grabs.

Badger Speech results

Badger Speech traveled to West Holt on Saturday. Sari LaDeaux placed 5th in Serious and Poetry, Praise Maunu 6th in Serious, Josie Shaul 6th in Entertainment and 7th Duet with Landen Mooney, and River Doyle 4th in Persuasive; the varsity team placed 7th overall.

Bareback rider Garrett Shadbolt sidelined by surgery

BarebackriderGarrettShadbolt of Merriman had his 2026 campaign to return to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas off to a strong start, but he was sidelined last week for several months because he needed surgery to repair a hip problem that he said had been nagging him the past year.

Badger Boys 2-0 | Lady Baders 1-1

by Danielle Arganbright The Badger basketball teams were in action last week! Boys basketball went 2-0 on the week with wins against Sandhills Thedford Knights and Chadron Cardinals. The girls basketball teams went 1-1 with a win against Sandhills Thedford Lady Knights and a loss to the Chadron Cardinals. They are in action February 13 and 14 with games against North Central and Perkins Co.

Roundball Tourney Champs

The home team went undefeated on Saturday to win the 7th/8th grade boys division of the Roundball Tournament held February 7, 2026, at the Valentine High School. Four area teams competed in the pool-play tournament.
