Sub zero temperatures were record breaking! Then surprise - Spring!

Two record breaking cold temperatures were recorded at Miller Field, in Valentine. The cold temperatures led to an ice jam breakaway at Smith Falls State Park, blocking the roads. The Nebraska Game and Parks closed access to the falls via Verdigre Bridge, until further notice. You can barely see a picnic table at the far right, obscured by the piled ice chunks. Record breaking lows were felt across the Sandhills. Wednesday, February 19, 2025 with a low of -27 degrees set in Valentine breaking the old record of -24 degrees which was set in 1936.
