Cherry County Board of Commissioners meeting minutes

The Cherry County Board of Commissioners convened in regular session on January 31, 2023 in the Cherry County Commissioners Meeting Room of the Cherry County Courthouse, as per notice in the Valentine Midland News every week, with the agenda being on file in the office of the County Clerk. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Chairman DeNaeyer. Roll call was taken. Present for the meeting were Cherry County Commissioners Martin DeNaeyer, Nina Nelson, Mike McConaughey, and Cherry County Clerk Brittny Longcor. The Open Meetings Act Poster was acknowledged by Chairman DeNaeyer and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

It’s a very chilly Winter Wonderland!

A record setting snowfall occurred, Friday, January 27, 2023. Three inches fell breaking the old record of 2.2 inches set in 1944. Snow continued the next day, adding 2.3 inches along with some extremely cold temperatures. The coldest, according to NOAA Weather, was -16 degrees Monday, January 30, at 7:52 a.m., with a wind chill of -32. The sun glowed warm, after being hidden by snow clouds all weekend long - perhaps making it look warmer than it really was?

Water main breaks on Lakeshore Drive

AccordingtoCityManagerShane Siewert, a water main break was reported on Lakeshore Drive Tuesday afternoon, January 24, 2023. “We were unable to turn off the water on that main to make the repair, so we had to call in someone with the equipment required to insert a shutoff valve in a live main.
