The North Central District Health Department (NCDHD) is alerting the public that mosquito pools collected near O’Neill in Holt County have tested positive for West Nile Virus. This summer, positive mosquito samples have also been found in Dakota, Red Willow, Adams, Dodge, Lincoln, Dawson, Washington, Box Butte and Scottsbluff counties in Nebraska.

This year’s Crazy Day lived up to its name—delivering wild sidewalk sales, a bustling receipt raffle, talented street artists, and the debut of the ultra-crazy Valentine Marathon. Winners of both the receipt raffle and the second annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition took home Chamber Bucks, redeemable at Valentine Chamber of Commerce member businesses.

Well, every rain has missed us down in the river valley south of Cody, but so has the lightning and hail, so there is always a reason to be grateful. The entire countryside is haying furiously before the help returns to school.

The Sand Painters Artist of the Month for August is Denise Adcock. Her art is on display at Security First Bank, Sandhills State Bank, Union Bank, Viaero and MPCC.

Leo Brinda Unit #90 was well-represented at the state level for the 2025 Poppy Poster contest! Kadence Bear Heels received first place in Class 1 and Jenalee Garwood received first place in Class 6. Harley Jo Thorpe received third place in Class 3. Kadence and Jenalee’s posters have advanced on to the Regional competition.

The excitement of Ranch Bronc Riding brought nine cowboys and seven Saddle Bronc riders to the Blaine County Fair Thursday evening, July 31, 2025 at Dunning. The crowd cheered for all riders.

Thedford has always been known for its cowboy culture. And this years Thomas County Fair did not disappoint.
