VFD calls for mutual aid on Smith Falls Road fire

A call came into the Valentine Fire Department of a fire on Smith Falls road, off Highway 12, Sunday afternoon, May 31, 2026. The VFD dispatched several rigs and called the following for Mutual Aid: Cody, Kilgore, Springview, Mission, Ainsworth and Wood Lake, along with the SEAT plane.

Hastings College honors 140th graduating class

HASTINGS, NE - Hastings College held its 140th Commencement Saturday, May 9, 2026, awarding degrees to 190 undergraduates and seven Master of Arts in Teaching graduates. Graduates represented 21 states and nine countries.

HASTINGS, NE ~ May 27, 2026 – Hastings College has announced the Deans List for its spring 2026 semester. For the semester, 327 students from 21 states and eight countries were named.

CSC announces Presidents and Deans List

CHADRON, NE ~ May 28, 2026 Chadron State College has announced the undergraduate students on the Spring 2026 President’s List. The President’s List consists of students with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

MPCC Rodeo Scholarship created in honor of Erika Schmidt

A new endowed scholarship providing $1,000 annually has been established for a Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team sophomore. The Erika Schmidt Memorial Sparkle Scholarship will be awarded to an eligible full-time student athlete who “sparkles” and exemplifies the qualities that Schmidt displayed throughout her time supporting the MPCC rodeo program; professionalism, go-getter spirit, encouraging, patient, supportive, building confidence, joy and generosity.
