Old batteries sitting in a drawer became an opportunity to do something positive for the community. During the Sandhills Ranch Expo in Bassett, the North Central Nebraska RC&D hosted a battery recycling collection as part of Nebraska’s efforts to expand safe battery recycling across the state. Residents were able to bring in unwanted household batteries, rechargeable power tool batteries, and cell phones to have them handled through the proper recycling process.

The Association of Nebraska Art Club (ANAC) Travel Show is on display at the Valentine Public Library August 13 through September 1. Twenty-six top award-winning pieces of art compile the show.

The 2026 Clothing Day Contest was held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, located at Mid-Plans Community College. The judges were Liz Ravenscroft, Nancy Allard, & Debbie Galloway. A total of 24 4-H members participated in the contest which included quilts, textile construction, and a fashion show. The following are the awards presented and their recipients.

Results from the Cherry County Fair Open Horse Show results, held Monday, August 3, at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. The Ag Society provided cash awards and ribbons for this year’s event, with donations from CW Halters, CE Equine, Sarah Schumacher, Jackie Qualley and Shannon Martin, Niobrara Valley Feed.

Cherry County 4-H Council Scholarship Winners - Mahaya Jones, Katelyn Dorsey, and Jenalee Garwood. Three scholarships were awarded in the amount of $1,000.

VALENTINE, NE — Darkening skies and an incoming storm brought an unexpected challenge to the Cherry County Hospital Foundation’s annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfast Feed during the Cherry County Fair, but quick thinking and teamwork helped turn the morning into another successful fund raiser for local healthcare.
