USPS plans to keep mail operations in North Platte

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), U.S. Representative Adrian Smith (NE-03), and U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.) issued the following statements after the United States Postal Service (USPS) announced that local mail processing operations will remain at the North Platte Mail Processing and Distribution Center. In addition to mail operations remaining in North Platte, NE, the USPS also announced its plans to invest up to $4.4 million in modernization efforts at the North Platte facility.

I certainly hope by the time this hits the streets, we’re all back to the balmy 40 degree temps – a 75 degree difference! Brrrrr! The poor school kids are running out of ideas of how to drive their parents crazy, so are finding themselves outside more. Hopefully this weather is freezing all the flu bugs out.

Minnechaduza Creek Bridge update

Minnechaduza Creek Bridge Structure Number. S012 00398 STP-12-2(106) CN 80944 ID 80944 Progress Report: Day 161 of 263 Work continues, when weather permits, on construction of the new concrete girder bridge three miles east of Valentine on Highway 12. The Bridge superstructure is built, with the Bridge Deck and Concrete Paving to follow. Current planning has placement of the Bridge Deck mid-March, with the road open to traffic mid-April.

Governor Pillen makes appointment to Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

LINCOLN,NE–February7,2025, Governor Jim Pillen announced his appointment of Kurt Arganbright of Valentine to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Arganbright will serve as the representative for District 6. His appointment is subject to confirmation by the Nebraska Legislature.

Parks named One Act and Drama sponsor at VHS

Valentine Community Schools is excited to announce Shelly Parks next year’s One Act and Drama Sponsor! Shelly is a 1998 graduate of Valentine High School. She participated in One Act and Speech competitions all four years of high school and was a theatre major her first year of college.

Council approves Boot Hill Cemetery clean up

The Valentine City Council met for their regular meeting, Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the City Library Meeting Room. The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. with the following in attendance: City Clerk Deanna Schmit, City Manager Shane Siewert, Council Members Ross Brockley, Max Eggert, Neil Wescott, Brad Arnold, and Kyle Arganbright.
