Scrap tire event - two days - this April!

The North Central Nebraska RC&D met on January 8, 2025 in Bassett,. Executive Director Carla Stagemeyer announced the approval of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Grant for a 200-ton scrap tire collection in Valentine. The event, which is funded through the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy, will be scheduled for two days in April. Champlin Tire Recycling, Inc., from Concordia, KS, will haul away the tires and recycle them in multiple ways.

Seniors over 50, schedule help with your taxes

The Valentine Public Library has partnered wit an AARP Tax-Aide to provide in-person assistance to anyone, free of charge, with a focus on taxpayers who are over 50 and have low to moderate income. This year, an AARP Tax-Aide volunteer will be at the Valentine Public Library from February 3, 2025, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Lately I’ve been reminded of a blockbuster movie from my youth. It contains a scene that even those who never saw the film are likely to recognize. A sleeping family is jolted awake, and from the foot of the bed the young daughter sings, “they’re here!”

Cody News

Well, it appears winter has found us, with sub-zero temps causing delayed starts to school. By the way, in order to keep our school kids growing up strong and smart, the Cody-Kilgore School system is seeking beef donations to fill the school freezers till the end of the school year. The school will pay for the processing. Please contact the school if you wish to donate or for more information.
