Friends of the Valentine Public Library Puzzle Tournament results

Our Friends of the Library Puzzle Tournament is complete, and the results are in! Morning session was a 500 piece puzzle. First place – Team Gettin' Jiggy With It, Shannon Broom and Brandi Jarrett, with an impressive time of 64 minutes and 7 seconds.

Heart City Theater progress

The Heart City Theater is moving right along. The board appreciates our generous community and surrounding areas for the contributions during the telethon held in November at KVSH, IGA’s Rice Krispies fund raiser, and the continued round-up at IGA. Without these contributions, the progress would not be where it is today.

LINCOLN – In its second week of the 2025 session, the 109th Nebraska Legislature hosted Gov. Jim Pillen for the State of the State address where he outlined his priorities for the upcoming 90 days, alongside a week’s worth of bill introductions.

A look back at the third quarter of 2024

by Laura Vroman The third quarter of 2024 begins with FREEDOM!! And the 248th birthday of America! Gentle breezes blew comfortable temperatures for the parade which began at 10:00 a.m., then over to Badger Memorial Field where a record number of guests participated in the national Let Freedom Ring celebration. At the Cherry County Fairgrounds was the God and Country Music Festival making its debut with music and poetry featuring lyrics about God and Country. The Demolition Derby began with a lot of action packed strategy. Finally, as the sun set golden, the fireworks were ignited by Neil Wescott concluding a patriotic day in small town Nebraska!

VMS Badger Effort Award

Congratulations to the Valentine Middle School second quarter Badger Effort Award recipients! The Badger Effort Award is based on the school’s character education. Students who demonstrate Character In Action (CIA), responsibility, accountability, honesty, empathy, and respect were nominated by their classroom teachers and staff.

More than 3,900 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance over the fall 2024 semester at South Dakota State University by being named to the Dean’s List. Students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

C-K music students perform at South Dakota State Capitol

On December 17, 2024, the Cody-Kilgore junior high and high school music students boarded the bus for their second annual South Dakota Christmas at the Capitol appearance. Excitement filled the air as returning students knew the fun that lay ahead. As the charter bus rambled toward Pierre, music director Jodi Arnold and the other adult chaperone’s were frantically checking the weather reports and SD511 to make sure this trip could be completed successfully. They did not want bad roads standing in the way of arriving and performing as it did in 2022. Bus driver Jerry Fullerton assured everyone it would be okay, and true to his word, spent the next couple of hours safely navigating snowy roads to Pierre.
