Cherry County Ambulance Service recognizes a collective 70 years of service!

It takes special people to run to the scene of an accident to want to help out! These four individuals were recently recognized by the Cherry County Ambulance Service for their years of service to the community. Dana Miller, EMT #81 has served 25 years; Jim Wright, Driver #118 has 15 years of service; Wendy Murphy EMT #89 has 25 years of service; Billie Brockley, EMT #141 has 10 years of service. We are grateful for their interest in keeping Cherry County citizens, or those passing through, helped and transported safely! The entire EMT service had responded to 556 calls in 2024. Thank you EMTs, drivers, and employers who let them do their job.

NDA opens application process for 2025 Nebraska Ag Youth Institute

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) has opened the application process for high school juniors and seniors interested in attending the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute (NAYI). NAYI is one of Nebraska’s biggest agriculture youth outreach events. The five-day program brings together students to network with ag leaders, learn more about the industry, and discover careers available in agriculture. NDA helps sponsor and coordinate NAYI every year. This year’s theme is Agriculture: It’s in our Genes.

Northeast Community College in Norfolk has released the President’s Honor List and Dean’s Honor List for both full and part time students for the fall 2024 semester. To be named to the President’s Honor List, students must earn a grade point average of 4.0 and be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours.

The Badger Speech brings home medals from Broken Bow

The Badger speech team had their second meet of the season with a trip to Broken Bow on Saturday, January 25. After a first-place finish at the Valentine meet on January 18, each team member brought home a medal in a large Broken Bow invite.

Recognizing TeamMates

TeamMates Recognition night was Friday January 24, 2025 at the home basketball game against Broken Bow. Mentors and mentees were able to gather together to cheer on the Badgers and be recognized. There was also a fund raiser for the TeamMates program with a silent action for different themed baskets.

Vets Club fourth round Soup Contest

The fourth round of the Vets Club Soup Contest, which was sponsored by Tony’s Tire, had four great soups! Donald McCleary took first with his yum yum soup. Coming in second was Amber Weller with her creamy chicken noodle soup and third was Bodell Bachelor’s chili. Brandon O’Kief’s chicken vegetable came in fourth! The finals will be January 31, in the Vets Club addition, hope to see everyone there!

The Valentine Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Jenny Moore said, “A HUGE thank you to all our fearless fishermen and women who braved the cold and wind! You all made this event unforgettable!” The official results are as follows: First place, Brandon Mayfield and Blake Covey, 35.93; second place, Colby Kraninger and Ben Lutterman, 34.40; third place, Zach Nadolski and Jime Hesse, 25.37; fourth place, Clayton Kettering and Kris Ryks, 24.36; fifth place, Jim Lee Sayaloune and John Sayaloune, 17.94; sixth place, Derek Thiele and Eric Allemang, 17.09; seventh place, Garrett Cox and Don Cox, 13.72; eighth place, Dave Fehlhafer and Kerry Hoffman, 12.95; ninth place, Matt Munson and Cody Stagemeyer, 12.35; 10th place, Kent Priel and Scott Ziegler, 12.08.

Ashley Blume Vackiner is new Veterans Service Officer

NotjustanyonecanbeaVeterans Service Officer. The job requires the individual who holds the position to have been in the United States military. Replacing Shawn Hamling in that role is Ashley Blume Vackiner. “Shawn has done a wonderful job of getting Valentine’s veterans taken care of,” Vackiner said.
