Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands announces Stage 1 fire restrictions

Chadron, NE July 29, 2024 - Due to rapidly drying wildland fuels and predicted hot and dry weather, the Nebraska National Forests & Grasslands, plan to enter Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, beginning Tuesday, July 30 at 1:00 a.m. Restrictions will remain in effect until forest officials determine that conditions have improved sufficiently to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires.

Soil organic matter (SOM) is the portion of soil that is composed of living and dead things in various states of decomposition, such as plant roots and microbes. Organic (carbon-based) materials that we add to the soil, like compost or organic fertilizers, will also contribute to SOM as they are incorporated and decomposed by soil organisms. And although SOM only accounts for a small fraction of soil by volume (2-8 percent), it’s very important for soil and plant health. SOM is where the magic happens.

Ricketts congratulates Nebraska athletes competing on Team USA at the 2024 Olympics

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) extended his congratulations to the four Nebraska athletes competing on Team U.S.A. in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The athletes include Jordan Larson of Hooper, Dylan Travis of Omaha, Duncan McGuire of Omaha, and Maggie Malone-Hardin of Geneva. The Summer Olympics kicked off with the Opening Ceremony July 26, and will end on August 11.
