Korean and Vietnam Memorial dedication on Veterans Day

The day was chilly, brisk, somber, and gray...but November 11, 2024, was also a celebration for all of our veterans. Particularly the dedication of the Korean and Vietnam Memorials that were recently placed in front of the Cherry County Justice Center, in Memorial Park.

NCAP’s Community Services Department has a new location

Valentine, November 20, 2024 — Northwest Community Action Partnership’s (NCAP) Community Services office and the Extra Helpings Food Pantry is thrilled to announce an open house at our new location. Please join us November 20, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 158 N. Main Street, Valentine to view our new facility and to meet NCAP staff.

Fill an Empty Stocking begins!

Leo Brinda Post and Unit 90, and the Sons of the American Legion in Valentine will sponsor their annual Fill An Empty Stocking project. Parents and/or legal guardians with physical custody who wish to sign their children up for gifts need to fill out the forms at Union Bank and Trust on Highway 20 in Valentine, before Friday, December 13.

Cherry County Hospital Foundation receives donation from Davenport estate

Valentine – The Cherry County Hospital Foundation recently announced a generous donation of over $830,000 from the estate of the late Michael Davenport. Personal representatives Andrew Johnson and Anne Quigley were present at the October board meeting for the check presentation, providing insight into Davenport’s life and the legacy he left behind.

Attorney General Hilgers announces victory challenge to federal contractor minimum wage

Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers announced a federal appellate victory in Nebraska v. Su. The case, which Nebraska brought with Idaho, Indiana, and South Carolina, challenges the legality of the federal contractor minimum wage. That policy affects employers who employ one-fifth of the U.S. workforce. A panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit agreed with Nebraska’s arguments, holding that the Biden Administration acted unlawfully and exceeded its statutory authority.
