Statements on tornadoes in Nebraska

Governor Jim Pillen issued the following statement in the aftermath of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes that resulted in damage across eastern Nebraska Friday, April 26, 2024: “Suzanne and I extend our deepest prayers to all those impacted by today’s storms. I have ordered that state resources be made available to assist with the emergency response and to support local first responders as they assess the damage. Nebraskans are tough, resilient people, and our neighbors and communities will rally around affected families and businesses to assist them. Nebraskans are no strangers to severe weather and, as they have countless times before, Nebraskans will help Nebraskans to rebuild.”

Visiting in the George and Jodi Arnold home last weekend was Jennifer Arnold. Jennifer is an au pair in Virginia and a cousin of Agatha, an exchange student from Italy staying with the Arnolds.

Samuel R. McKelvie prescribed burn

Nenzel, April 21, 2024 — The Bessey Ranger District successfully conducted a 2,650-acre prescribed burn on Sunday, April 21 at the Samuel R. McKelvie National Forest near Nenzel. During burning operations, two areas burned outside control lines that totaled approximately 20 acres. Though the burn was outside of control lines, all fire was kept on Forest Service lands and within the area future prescribed burning was planned.

Red Cross Blood Drive needs donors for May 2

Valentine, May 2 - A sufficient blood supply is important to ensure patient needs are met. Donors of all blood types are encouraged to donate blood, May 2, from 11:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church to help save lives.

Seneca – Bree DeMontigny of Seneca, has been appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board (CBB). The CBB is responsible for guiding the national Beef Checkoff Program.

Long Pine Bridge work to begin May 20

Ainsworth — Work on the Long Pine Bridge is now projected to begin May 20, 2024. Prime contractor Iowa Civil Contracting, Inc., of Victor, IA has revised their work schedule and will reduce impacts to traffic prior to completely closing the bridge. According to the contractor's latest schedule site preparations are estimated to begin May 20, 2024 with traffic reduced to one-lane during the daytime and controlled by flaggers.
