VPD reported offenses, citations, and arrests, March 3 - 9

Incidents/Arrests On 03/03/2024 at 9:28 p.m., an officer responded to the 100 block of West Highway 20 for a theft complaint. A 30 year old South Dakota man was arrested on an active federal warrant, theft by unlawful taking and possession of stolen property.

Dryland cropping system to be focus of upcoming Nebraska Soil Health School

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) will host a Nebraska Soil Health School, sponsored by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at UNL’s High Plains Ag Lab (HPAL), 3257 Rd. 109, Sidney. Registration and refreshments will begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by a welcome from the event’s organizer, Bijesh Maharjan, UNL associate professor.

Prescribed fire safety and planning

The snow has melted and land managers around the state are getting ready to use prescribed fire. They are also balancing their management activities with safety. The idea of intentionally lighting fires can be alarming when there are wildfires occurring in the state. The Niobrara Valley Prescribed Fire Association wants its community to know that its members prepare extensively for burns and work closely with their local fire chiefs. They are committed to safe and responsible prescribed fire use.

True Self Care

During our most recent family movie night, we watched one of my favorites: Encanto. At one point in the movie, a character who has been gifted supernatural strength confesses that she fears she will crumble under the weight of all that is expected from her. Although she accomplishes amazing things, it never feels like enough. She never feels like she, herself, is enough.
