Valentine Police Annual Report

We continue with Valentine Police Department’s Annual Report. Here Chief Miller said, “Suffice to say, our staffing shortage has not yet been addressed during 2023. Though the department continues to advertise the vacant positions, and we have taken the further step of sending officers and staff to various job fairs throughout the state, we have been unable to fill our two vacant Police Officer positions as of this report.

Register now for annual Vanderheiden Memorial Run

Registration is open for the third annual Tyler Vanderheiden Memorial Run, a race aimed at raising awareness and understanding of mental health that also acts as a fund raiser for Nebraska Game and Parks state park trails.

VHS FBLA students attend Day2Grow business conference

A HUGE shout out to Valentine and surrounding communities for spending money at the Badger Den buying apparel, FBLA concessions, plus indulging in Krispie Kremes on donut days - which supports FBLA!! The Valentine FBLA High School club was able to send Harvey Dean, Josie Shall, Aubrey Benson, Christen Larsen, and Caitlynn Mack to Kissimmee, FL, March 6-10 for a convention and to swim with dolphins! The students were accompanied by Mrs. Cardinal and Mrs.

The Nebraska Department of Education is hosting

Groups of educators, law enforcement officers and first responders from across Nebraska are joining the Nebraska Department of Education’s School Safety staff for a series of specialized trainings from the I Love U Guys Foundation at three different sites. NDE staff will help schools in developing safe school communities during emergency situations by putting Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and Standard Reunification Method (SRM) into a practical exercise.

This isn’t the baby blues

Transitioning to become a parent can be one of the most pivotal changes in a person’s life. Rarely are the hard moments of this change talked about enough. For example, did you know one in five women and one in 10 men suffer from postpartum depression? Parents of any culture, race, age, or income level can be affected. We commonly hear and get confused about postpartum depression being the “baby blues.” This is a common misconception. The baby blues are very common and happen to 80 percent of women in postpartum. This occurs within the first few days and lasts a few weeks. The baby blues will usually go away with rest and time.
