It was a blustery day Thursday with wintry weather, but our area only received about an inch of snow. That's OK - we'll take any moisture we can get as conditions are quite dry, and there have been several days of red flag warnings and concerns about fire.

Spring cleaning, indoors and out, is a long-standing tradition for many households. But as we learn more about the important pollinators, insect-eating toads, songbirds, and beneficial insects, the more we realize we need to adjust some of our timing and methods.

Niobrara Council elects officers

The Niobrara Council met February 15, 2024 for their regular meeting. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. at the Peppermill with the following in attendance: Jason Appelt, Karl Connell, Dallas Dodson, Les Hall, Wade Hollenbeck, RichMercure,MikeMurphy,Buddy Small, and Mike Tuerk.

Bomgaars donates to Cherry County Hospital’s Oncology Department

Valentine, NE – On November 5, 2023, Bomgaars held a night of festive and fun shopping just for ladies. Bomgaars joined with Cherry County Hospital to raise awareness of women’shealthissuesandpassed along a 20 percent discount for the women in attendance from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A donation of the evening’s total sales was pledged back to the Oncology Department at Cherry County Hospital.

One thing Punxsutawney Phil didn’t share with his inner circle about the coming spring season was just how atypical the weather would be throughout February. The highs and lows of the month were scattered from -9 , February 17, to a record breaking high of 70 degrees, Monday, February 26, breaking the old record of 68 degrees set in 1932.
