Valentine Chamber of Commerce welcomed Santa and his reindeer!

Saturday, December 9, 2023, Santa and his reindeer were on Valentine’s Main Street visiting with people of all ages. Some didn’t have any requests at all, some gave hugs, and pictured at right, this one wanted to know if Santa was real? “Pull my beard,” Santa said! The beard stayed put and the spirit of Christmas lives on! Santa’s reindeer are hanging out at Wood Lake when they’re not at the North Pole. The weather was windy and cool perhaps Santa brought some polar weather with him.

Gov. Pillen joins letter calling for halt to foreign land grabs

LINCOLN, NE – Governor Jim Pillen has joined 16 Republican governors in calling on President Joe Biden, the U.S. Congress, and other federal leaders to take necessary action protecting states from being targeted in land grabs by foreign, adversarial nations. While some states have passed legislation to restrict foreign land ownership, the governors say more needs to happen at the national level.

With the holidays approaching and Americans having donated nearly $500 billion last year, the personal-finance website WalletHub released its latest report on the Most Caring Cities in America. In order to identify the most compassionate places in America, WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S.

Grant awarded for Tire Amnesty event in 2024

The Upper Elkhorn NRD and North Central NE RC&D Council has been awarded a $115,720 grant from the Nebraska Department of Energy and Environment. With this grant notice, plans will move ahead to hold a spring 2024 Tire Amnesty event in Newport.

Cody-Kilgore receives Excellent rating from AQuESTT

We are thrilled to announce that we have earned an Excellent rating from the Nebraska Department of Education’s AQuESTT measuring instrument for the 2022-2023 school year. AQuESTT serves as both an accountability system and a support system, focusing on six key principles.

An Intro to Life, for area sophomores, is held at Valentine

event was held at the Cherry County Farigrounds 4-H building Wednesday, November 15, 2023. The program was for sophomore students from the following schools: Ainsworth, Cody-Kilgore, Keya Paha, Rock County, Thedford, and Valentine. Just over 100 sophomores were in attendance. Volunteers from the community were kind enough to spend the day with students to share their time, talents, and energy. They coached them on life skills and helped them with their “real-life” adult budget scenarios.

Jensen named Head Cross Country Coach at VHS

Valentine Community Schools is proud to announce Alex Jensen as the new Head Cross Country Coach. This is Alex Jensen’s seventh year at Valentine Community Schools where he teaches high school social studies.
