4-H Dog Show Results

The Cherry County 4-H and Open Class Dog Show was held on August 7, 2023. The 4-H dog leader is Jamie Seipel.

Troopers make 94 DUI arrests in

Lincoln-Nebraska State Troopers arrested 94 impaired drivers during a three-week enforcement campaign to close-out the summer travel season. The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign ran from August 16 through September 4.

Governor Pillen led delegation on trade mission to South Korea and Japan

Lincoln – Governor Jim Pillen led a delegation to South Korea and Japan aimed at growing trade opportunities that will benefit Nebraska. The group had multiple stops scheduled in both countries during the week-long visit, which began Monday, September 4. Other members of the team included Nebraska Department of Agriculture Director Sherry Vinton, ag-related businesses, and representatives from state government.

Sentences issued in District Court

Cherry County Attorney Eric Scott has announced that in Cherry County District Court, Thursday, August 24, 2023, the following sentences were issued: Justice White Horse, age 21, appeared and was sentenced to two years in the Nebraska State Penitentiary for the crime of Attempted Burglary.

Troopers uninjured after patrol units struck on I-80

Ogallala-Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol were responding to an incident on Interstate 80 near Big Springs Saturday afternoon when three patrol units were struck while parked on the shoulder. At approximately 3:00 p.m.

State park areas, WMAs temporarily banning campfires

Nebraska state park areas and wildlife management areas in Cherry County are temporarily banning campfires as drought conditions have triggered extreme fire danger. The following areas will have campfire bans until further notice: • Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area, Cottonwood Lake SRA, Bowring Ranch State Historical Park, and Smith Falls State Park.

Confirmed mountain lion sighting

The Valentine Police Department has confirmed a mountain lion sighting within the City of Valentine via video evidence. The animal appears to be moving along the riparian area of the Minnechaduza River adjacent to Valentine.
