With unseasonably warm temperatures the month of December, those who hoped for a white Christmas were happy to see snow in the forecast...which changed to blizzard conditions and I-80 Expressway closures; ultimately impacting friends and family who were trying to make it to the Sandhills to enjoy the Reason for the Season.

The earlier forecast for Christmas looked great, but the weather changed and it was a stormy weekend. Some family plans changed because of the weather, but compared to a year ago, we were golden! The Jesse Logterman family of Sioux Falls and Jon Logterman family from Iowa arrived at the Dwight and Marvanne Logterman home on Saturday for the Christmas weekend.

The day was brisk, cloudy, and windy, reminding us that many of the service men and women who were laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery, served in these very conditions. The National Wreaths Across America program began at 11:00 a.m., to coincide Nationally with other cemeteries who were placing wreaths on servicemen and women’s graves.

National Blood Donor Month has been observed in January since 1970, and recognizes the importance of giving blood and platelets while honoring those who roll up a sleeve to help patients in need. The community is invited to help save lives by donating blood Thursday, January 4, from 11:30 a.m.

They hope that old and unproductive habits leading to troubles in the past will fade away being replaced by attitudes and actions which will bring a new beginning leading to a happier life. Consequently, many people make New Year’s resolutions to effect such change and advance their good intentions. Unfortunately, most of those resolutions…most of the time soon fail, fade from memory, and are forgotten as old habits prove stronger than new-found desires.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) released the following statement in response to the Colorado Supreme Court’s recent ruling disqualifying President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 ballot: “Regardless of your political persuasion, denying a candidate even the ability to stand for election is wrong. It’s the right of American voters to support who they wish, but this ruling takes away that right. This election interference is deeply unAmerican. I encourage the Supreme Court to weigh in quickly.”

Lincoln, December 20, 2023 — The 2024 Cow-Calf College, offered by Nebraska Extension, gives producers a chance to learn about cow and calf health from some of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln’s veterinarians and researchers.

This year when I came into office, it was a priority for me to build relationships with law enforcement across the state. In January, I started by visiting Colfax County, and over the subsequent months, I have driven across Nebraska to courthouses and communities from Arthur to Wayne County to Webster County. As this is being written, I am wrapping up a 93-county tour.

As we approach the end of 2023, I am reflecting on all that the Social Security Administration has accomplished, despite considerable challenges. It’s been my great privilege to lead Social Security’s approximately 60,000 employees for the past 2.5 years, and I’m so proud of the work they’ve done to fulfill our mission.
