Summer safety tips

As schools let out for the summer and outdoor activities increase, so do calls to Poison Centers. Exposure to plants, insects and chemicals can put a damper on the fun and cause lasting injuries. Prevention is the key to safety and a high priority for the Poison Center.

Governor Pillen signs historic school choice bill

LINCOLN - Governor Jim Pillen signed LB753 (Opportunity Scholarships Act) – the first school choice bill in Nebraska's history to be signed into law. Governor Pillen was joined at the event by state senators, school choice advocacy representatives, and students.

Troopers encourage safety around state recreation areas this summer

MAY 30, 2023, LINCOLN — Summer fun is in full swing across Nebraska! As Nebraskans and visitors enjoy recreation areas across the state, troopers will be partnering with local agencies, and Nebraska Game and Parks officers to keep Nebraska’s state recreation areas safe throughout the summer months.

Main Street will be closed, Friday, June 9, from Third to Fourth Street for these events: 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. - The second Shopko Project meeting at City Hall. Presentation from the Goodlife Architecture at 5:15 p.m. with initial design proposals per community input. There will also be some updates about finance and operations.

Sandhills Cattle Association’s 84th annual Convention and Banquet is June 15!

For 83 years, the Sandhills Cattle Association has been holding its annual Membership Meeting, but over the years, we’ve added a trade show, cattle contests, educational speakers, and entertainment. This year we will be changing things up a bit with a more banquet style event with a steak dinner on June 15, at the Cherry County Fairgrounds in Valentine. Since it is just around the corner, we’d like to invite you and your family to enjoy a great evening in the Heart City!

Deputy McSweeney is honored with MADD Heroes Award

Cherry County Deputy Ryan McSweeney was honored during the annual MADD Heroes Awards Tuesday, May 23, 2023 in Lincoln. Each year, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) honors troopers, officers, deputies, and advocates across the state for their work to prevent drunk driving through enforcement and education efforts.
