School choice puts Nebraska kids first

On May 30, 2023, I signed LB753 into law. LB753, known as the Opportunity Scholarship Act, will provide parents the choice in which school to send their children.

Why tornado alley is moving southeast and how that affects Nebraska

For more than 70 years, a stripe through the middle of the United States extending from Texas north to Nebraska was known as Tornado Alley. But meteorologists say that in the last 20 years, the alley has shifted away from the northern Great Plains and toward the Southeast, meaning fewer tornadoes are happening in Nebraska.

Troopers arrest 65 impaired drivers during Click It or Ticket

JUNE 6, 2023, LINCOLN — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed 65 impaired drivers from the road during the annual campaign Click It or Ticket campaign to begin the summer travel season. “Nebraska roadways have had a busy start to summer,” said Colonel John Bolduc, superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol.

Smith Falls reopens with new boardwalk

Visitors are again enjoying the sight of Smith Falls, Nebraska’s tallest waterfall. The waterfall at Smith Falls State Park, and the newly constructed 500-foot boardwalk to it, reopened May 26, 2023 with only finishing touches remaining in the process.

NPS and MNNRD enhance Niobrara River landing

Middle Niobrara Natural Resource District and Niobrara National Scenic River staff worked together to improve river users’ access at Brewer Bridge landing. The landing was leveled up and new beach mats were installed to assist people using this landing. This is a different product and can be changed if seen that it isn’t working well for people.

Oh yeah! Main Street is open in Valentine!

Valentine City Council President Kyle Arganbright was the one who cut the ribbon for Valentine’s Main Street renovation, Friday, June 9, 2023. The celebration included free hamburgers grilled in front of the Valentine Public Library by Hoboe’s Smoke n’ Meat’s. The line stretched all the way to the Sawyer Memorial Library!

Little Miss Poppy, Darby Murphy, and Little Miss Poppy in Waiting Maggie Arnold let those gathered in the Pledge of Allegiance. Nathan Perrett sang the National Anthem, followed by Pastor Tim Wilkinson who shared a prayer of hope and freedom.
