Really, Mother Nature?

Many were shaking their heads over the forecast last week when NOAA Weather said up to 20 inches of snow, blustery winds, and below zero wind chills. The good news for those who were definitely “over winter,” the storm only left behind some ice rather than the forecasted snow. Schools had a late start Tuesday, April 4, 2023, and the roads were definitely slippery. Pictured above is the scenic overlook with approximately a quarter inch of ice on the pines.

Christ is risen!

Sunday, April 9, 2023, Easter was celebrated with a candy hunt at the Valentine City Park, at 1:00 p.m. Sponsored by Leo Brinda Post #90, candy was hidden by the Easter Bunny for youth to find.

Celebration of Life Service

A celebration of life will be held for Ed Vinton on Saturday, April 22 at the American Legion in Gordon from 11:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided. As Ed was an avid Husker Football fan, we will have the spring game on for everyone to watch during the celebration. At 2:00 p.m., there will be an opportunity to share memories of Ed with all of his family and friends. Ed requested that any donations should be made out to the NU Foundation with “In memory of Ed Vinton” and list the fund number 01053210 - Georgians For Nebraska Scholarship Fund. Ainsworth-Weather permitting, work will resume April 3 in Bassett and south on US-183, from reference post 172.20 to reference post 182.33, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Western Engineering Company, Inc of Harlan, Iowa is the contractor for this project.

Nebraska’s NRDs advocate for strengthening tools to preserve and fund natural resources projects, which includes influencing policymakers from the ground up with a unified voice.
