Railroads urged to examine track detectors after Ohio crash

OMAHA, (AP)-Freight railroads should reexamine the way they use and maintain the detectors along the tracks that are supposed to spot overheating bearings, federal regulators urged Tuesday in the wake of a fiery Ohio derailment and other recent crashes.

Teachers could restrain unruly students under Nebraska bill

LINCOLN, AP - Nebraska lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow teachers and school staff to physically restrain disruptive students and remove them from classrooms without fear of being disciplined, even as critics say physical restraint has been used disproportionately against minority and disabled students.

The Middle Niobrara Natural Resources District (MNNRD) is offering a $500 scholarship to an outstanding student. To apply for the scholarship students may be; a graduating high school senior, currently attending college or vocational school, or a non-traditional student acquiring additional education.

Kansas State University students earn fall semester honors More than 4,200 Kansas State University students have earned semester honors for their academic performance in the fall 2022 semester. Students earning a grade point average for the semester of 3.75 or above on at least 12 graded credit hours receive semester honors along with commendations from their deans.

Incidents/Arrests On 02/20/2023 at 3:59 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of North Edna Street. A 59 year old male and a 33 year old female, both from South Dakota, were cited for drug violations and child safety violations.

Tuesday, March 28, 2023, Mid Plains Community College who has teamed up with the Valentine Police Department will be offering a Drug Recognition Community Awareness class. The session will cover drug signs, symptoms, trends, and what to watch for. The FREE class will be held at Mid Plains from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
