Lincoln– Attorney General Hilgers announced that consumers who were deceived by TurboTax’s owner Intuit into paying for free tax services will begin receiving checks from a $141 million multistate settlement announced in May 2022. Approximately 4.4 million consumers nationwide will receive checks in the mail from the multistate settlement.

Columbus – Farmers are getting back in the field for spring planting season and Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is asking equipment operators to look up and look out for powerlines. Powerlines located along fields can pose a potential safety hazard for equipment operators who are not aware of their surroundings.

Valentine High School held their commencement Program, Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. Their class motto was: Chase your dreams, but always know the road that’ll lead you home again, Tim McGraw Their class flower was a red rose, with turquoise and gold as their class colors. Till You Can’t by Cody Johnson was their class song. There were 49 graduates from Valentine High School, of them, 22 were honor graduates and included: Ashlee Jo Bacon, Mekallyn Darae Bancroft, Taylor Ann Battershaw, Saylor Denne Renea Biltoft, Hanna Christine Bitner, Jaycie Grace Cox, Lainey Genne Egelhoff, McKenna Ann Elliott, Connor Fairfield Kreutner, Jack Matthew Lancaster, Ashton Joseph Lurz, Lee George Minford Major, Grace Althea Maunu, Casey William Miller, Malika Shae Amari Monroe, Logan Shadow Muirhead, Taycee Jo Reimers, Sheldyn Don Rodgers, Cole Frederick Simon, Gracey Rhey Taylor, and James Michael Woodraska.

Valentine Community Schools is pleased to announce Ann Krueger as Head One Act Coach. Ann is originally from Cheyenne, WY. She graduated in 2007 with honors from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Marketing and minors in Finance and German.

The Community Services Program at Northwest Community Action Partnership (NCAP) will sponsor a Drive Thru Mobile Food Pantry with the Food Bank of the Heartland on May 23, 2023 at the Cherry County Fairgrounds located at 120 S. Green Street in Valentine starting at 5:00 p.m. There is no need to bring boxes volunteers will load the food in your vehicle. Any family in need is welcome to come.

Cody-Kilgore Unified Schools held their commencement exercises, Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. MT.

The annual Mother-Daughter Banquet will be held at the Valentine Methodist Church, 804 East 5th Street, Wednesday, May 17 at 6:30 p.m. This year's theme is 'Bloom Where You're Planted'. Tickets are available at Broken Spoke Boutique and are $12.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 10 and under. The program entails singing, dancing, a skit, and concludes with drawings for prizes to make a fun evening for everyone.
