Hearing in State vs. Kilmer case held September 13

Tuesday, September 13, 2022, Mike Guinan and Sandra Allen were in Cherry County District Court representing the State of Nebraska, along with Todd Lancaster, attorney for Kevin Kilmer, who also appeared.

VPD reported offenses, citations, and arrests, September 4-10

On 09/05/2022 at 7:51 a.m., the department received a call involving alleged terroristic threats dispersed via social media. The threat was determined to involve another jurisdiction. All information was forwarded to the appropriate agency.

An update on the IN VALENTINE projects

Paulsen Construction will continue to place sidewalks and ADA (American Disabilities Act) sidewalk crossings. Also, expect placement of the northbound lane from Highway 20 to 1st Street mid-week. Placing 9” doweled concrete at 21’ wide for this section of roadway may take more than one day.

Merritt Reservoir SRA certified as International Dark Sky Park

Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area, renowned for its Sandhills location providing spectacular astronomical views, has been certified as an International Dark Sky Park. Merritt has hosted the annual Nebraska Star Party each summer for 29 years, when professional and amateur astronomers converge to take advantage of a sky free of light pollution.

BADGER OF THE WEEK

Isaac Cronin, Freshman, Cross-Country Ike Cronin’s leadership and performance at the Broken Bow Cross Country meet earned him the title: Badger of the Week. As a freshman, Isaac has shown great initiative and dedication to himself and his teammates at practice and at meets. Isaac ran 20:10 and was our second runner at the Ainsworth meet. Isaac knew he had to lead our team at Broken Bow and that he did. Isaac ran an 18:49.69 placing him 26 in a field of 131 competitors. Way to go Isaac, your “Cross Country Family” congratulates you and we will continue to watch as our season progresses.
