Highlights of Connect Nebraska Broadband Initiative

LINCOLN – Governor Pete Ricketts held a press conference to highlight the State’s plans to expand reliable, high-speed internet service across Nebraska. The Governor was joined by members of the Connect Nebraska working group, a team of leaders tasked with optimizing state and federal funds to expand broadband. Led by State Broadband Coordinator Patrick Redmond, the working group includes representatives of the Nebraska Public Service Commission, the Office of the Chief Information Officer, and the State Budget Office.

Troopers arrest 66 impaired drivers during Drive Sober Campaign

SEPTEMBER 7, 2022 — Nebraska State Troopers took 66 impaired drivers off the road during the latest Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. “This has been a busy summer on Nebraska roadways,” said Colonel John Bolduc, Superintendent of the Nebraska State Patrol.

2022 State Fair attendance up nearly eight percent

The Nebraska State Fair finished its successful 11-day run in Grand Island on Labor Day Monday with reason to celebrate. The State Fair had a 7.9 percent increase in attendance, finishing with an estimated 11-day total of 287,367 guests.

It’s Constitution Week!

Constitution Week is celebrated the week of September 17 by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) In 1955 the President General of the DAR adopted a project to promote the observance of the U.S. Constitution with a memorial week beginning on the anniversary of the signing of that document.

Celebrating National Assisted Living Week

LINCOLN - America’s assisted living communities will participate in National Assisted Living Week (NALW) September 11-17, 2022. The national observance begins each year on National Grandparents Day and honors the individuals who reside, work, and volunteer in assisted living and residential care communities. It was created by the National Center for Assisted Living in 1995 to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance helps educate members of the public about this distinct aspect of long-term care.

Aksarben Pioneer Family Farm Award

A Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award was presented with grateful appreciation by The Aksarben FoundationandtheNebraskaFarm Bureau. The Nebraska Aksarben and Farm Bureau are honored to recognize the Epke/Stiefel Family Farm Established in 1903, for 100 Years of Continuous Family Ownership.

Drive thru Mobile Food Pantry coming to Valentine September 27

The Community Services Program at Northwest Community Action Partnership (NCAP) will sponsor a Drive Thru Mobile Food Pantry with the Food Bank of the Heartland on September 27, 2022 at the Cherry County Fairgrounds located at 120 S. Green Street in Valentine from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Please use the north entrance and volunteers will load the food in your vehicle. Any family in need is welcome to come.

National Park Service celebrates 100 years!

We had a lovely time celebrating the birthday of the National Park Service and talking about the Niobrara National Scenic River. There were two rangers, and three guests on the trip.
