Niobrara Council will look into PIE grants

The Niobrara Council met for their regular meeting, Thursday, August18,2022,atthePeppermillin Valentine. Cherry County individual and business Friends of 4-H named

Each year the Cherry County 4-H Council requests nominations from 4-H youth and families for the Friend of 4-H Award. This award goes to outstanding volunteers/ supporters in an individual division and a business division. The 2022 winners are Craig O’Kief and Sandshooters. Below are nomination notes.

Butcher achieves rank of Eagle Scout, enlists in U.S. Navy

Benjamin Butcher, of Valentine, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in November 2021. He is the brother of Maxwell Manning, and the son of Jennie and Brian Manning of Valentine and Kraig and Joleen Butcher of Mitchell, SD.

The Valentine Police Department received a report of an incident that occurred within the City Limits extending into the County south down Highway 83. The caller reported that someone had aggressively followed them for nearly 20 miles. The caller was not harmed andthesuspectvehiclefledthearea. This would be an appropriate time to call 911! 4-H and Open Class Bucket Show results

The future of beef is bright in Cherry County! On August 11, 2022, the bucket calf show boasted a record turn out with 15 animals in the ring! Bucket calf record books and animals were judged by Danny O’Kief.

Naslund named Premier Livestock Exhibitor

Congratulations to Ayden Naslund for receiving the Cherry County 4-H Premier Livestock Exhibitor Award. Youth accumulate points for year-round participation in livestock activities and submit an essay on livestock care.

2022 Cherry County Fair 4-H Round Robin Showmanship Results

The Round Robin Showmanship competition brings the top senior showmen/ women from swine, sheep, goat, and beef together to show all four species back-to-back, which determines the most versatile individual! If youth win Round Robin, they are ineligible to compete again for two years.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

AUGUST 22, 2022, LINCOLN — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed from the road 15 impaired drivers during the first weekend of the annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. The national campaign marks the end of the summer driving season.
