Arrests/Incidents On 08/14/2022 at 3:32 p.m., an officer responded to the 300 block of North Victoria Street for a domestic disturbance. A 50 year old male and a 46 year old male, both from South Dakota, were arrested for assault and criminal trespassing.

Closures planned during park upgrades locally, and in the Panhandle

Access to certain areas of parks in north-central Nebraska and the Panhandle will be temporarily closed to make way for improvements. Mike Morava, regional superintendent for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, said each of the projects is being started early enough in the fall to be finished before visitation peaks next year.

Consume iron-rich foods before donating blood September 1

Donated blood is a lifesaving gift mostly healthy people can give. But even healthy people are sometimes temporarily deferred from donating due to low hemoglobin, which is often caused by low blood iron levels. The community, including those who have been temporarily deferred in the past due to low iron levels, are encouraged to attempt to donate blood Thursday, September 1, 2022, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the St. Nicholas Parish Hall.

Declining water levels at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area near Valentine has provided the opportunityforadditionalupgrades to the main ramp area. The work will result in temporary closure of the ramp.

Medical Marijuana Initiatives fail to make the November Ballot

LINCOLN - Secretary of State Bob Evnen announced that two medical marijuana ballot initiatives failed to qualify and will not appear on the November 2022 general election ballot. The Medical Cannabis Patient Protections Initiative and the Medical Cannabis Regulation Initiative failed to meet the Nebraska Constitutional signature requirements.
