Season opener earns first place for VHS golf

The VHS Girls Golf Team traveled to O’Neill for their season opener, Thursday, August 18, 2022, where they earned first place with a score of 406 out of 10 teams. Three of the Lady Badgers earned medals: Champion Mekallyn Bancroft, 89; second place, Kaetryn Bancroft, 90; 15th place, Kaylee Hanson, 107.

Lady Wrangler Horse Show results

The results of the Lady Wrangler Horse show are as follows: Five years and up - Geldings first place, Millie Jo Kime; second place, Madysen Leithead, third place, Bentley Ford; fourth place, Jayda From; fifth place, Treven Kenner; sixth place, Ann Neiffer.

2022 Cherry County Fair 4-H Shooting Sports Competition results

The 2022 Cherry County 4-H Shooting Sports Competition was held Friday, August 5, at Cody Trap Club and Saturday, August 6, at the Cherry County Fairgrounds. Coaches this year were Toby Heinert and Tyler Peterson for Trap, Jason McNare for Rifle, and Adam Naslund for Archery.

Troopers stop 72 speeders for 100 mph+ during Statewide Campaign

AUGUST 16, 2022, LINCOLN — The Nebraska State Patrol has completed the Stop Speeding Before It Stops You campaign, in partnership with hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the country. The effort, which ran from July 20 through August 14, was designed for increased enforcement and awareness around the issue of speeding on roadways across Nebraska.

ITT student loan forgiveness nearly $3.9 billion

Lincoln—August 17, 2022, Attorney General Doug Peterson announced that the Department of Education will discharge all remaining federal student loans for borrowers who attended ITT Technical Institute (ITT). There were 1,340 Nebraskans who attended ITT who will have their outstanding federal student loans cancelled, totaling approximately $25,100,000 in student loan debt cancellation. In all, the U.S. Department of Education will discharge nearly $3.9 billion in full loan discharges to 208,000 borrowers who attended ITT from January 2005 to the school’s closure in September 2016.
