A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Valentine, Nebraska was held August 11, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Library Meeting Room, the same notice of meeting was given according to law. All of the proceedings hereafter shown were taken while the meeting was open to the public. A public information council agenda packet was available at the public information table. Notice of the Open Meetings Act was provided as required by law.

Niobrara National Scenic River celebrates Founders Day August 25

Valentine – On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the Organic Act, creating the National Park Service. On Thursday, August 25, 2022, the Niobrara National Scenic River will be celebrating the founding of the National Park Service with two special events.

Fort Niobrara Refuge bison are back

Wellactually,thebisonneverleft the refuge. They’ve just been out of sight for the past couple months. Each year the refuge rotates bison throughmorethanadozenpastures to ensure that areas are not overgrazed. Duringmostof thesummer, the bison can only be seen from the Wilderness Overlook because they are roaming pastures on the south side of the refuge. For the next two to three weeks, however, bison will be roaming along the county road east of the Visitor Center.
