Lincoln, August 4, 2022 - Stress seems to be prevalent in the agriculture sector, especially in areas where natural disasters or wildfires have occurred. When temporary stress turns into chronic stress, it can impact physical health and mental wellness.

Arrest made in Laurel homicide investigation

AUGUST 5, NORFOLK — The Nebraska State Patrol has arrested a suspect in connection with four homicides that occurred in Laurel early Thursday morning. The investigation included two scenes on Elm Street in Laurel. Each scene included a residence with a fire.

Gov. Ricketts thanks Nebraska National Guard for Service in the Middle East

CAMP ARIFJAN, KUWAIT – Governor Pete Ricketts thanked Nebraska National Guard (NNG) Soldiers from the 1057th Military Police Company for their service during a visit to the Middle East. The Governor spoke to Soldiers at CampArifjanArmyBaseinKuwait tocelebratearareoccurrence—one Nebraska team transferring its commandtoanotherdetachmentof fellowNebraskans.TheScottsbluffbased team of the 1057th Military Police deployed in October 2021. As they return home, the Kearneybased detachment of the 1057th is carrying on their mission.

Answered prayers after record setting heat!

The drought and high temperatures has the community praying for rain! Which it did after a record setting high of 109 was reached Tuesday, August 2, 2022. This breaks an old record set in 1938 of 108 degrees, according to NOAA Weather. Temperatures continued in the 90s for Wednesday and Thursday. Thunderstorms and wicked weather were forecasted for Thursday, August 4, with a torrential downpour dropping .71 inches of rain making driving hazardous and lightning sparking off fires.

Public areas in Panhandle closed due to wildfires

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is closing several areas in the Panhandle southwest of Gering to help firefighters battling wildfires. Cedar Canyon Wildlife Management Area, Montz Point WMA, and Carter Canyon and Montz Point, both part of Platte River Basin Environments, are closed so firefighters are not hindered by vehicle traffic.
