Volunteers repair turtle fences on Highway 83

Repairs to the turtle fences at Valentine National Wildlife Refuge were completed. There were 24 volunteers who contributed 147 hours of work over the four days the fencing was being worked on.

USF and WS win the seventh annual National Night Out!

The seventh annual National Night Out was held on July 26, 2022, at the Valentine Family Aquatic Center. This event is an annual community-building event that promotes First Responder and community unity.

Update on the IN VALENTINE project

As of July 26, 2022, next year’s work has started. When this project was let for bidding, the construction scheduling had a start date of April 1, 2022 with a contract time of 215 working days. Phase 3 work was scheduled to be completed in 2023. Today is working day 87.

Chengs to perform August 6

The Valentine Presbyterian Church will be hosting a concert by Heidi and Kevin Cheng on Saturday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m. ethics in the church sanctuary.

Honoring Chief Standing Bear

LINCOLN – Governor Pete Ricketts joined State leaders and Ponca Tribe members to honor Chief Standing Bear through the dedication of the Chief Standing Bear Justice Administration Building. Chief Standing Bear’s 1879 lawsuit against the federal government, Standing Bear v. Crook, led to a landmark decision reaffirming the basic human dignity of Native Americans and entitling them to equal protection of the law.

Keya Paha County road closed

On Monday, July 25 the Keya Paha County Road Department began work on Lost Creek Road (northeast of Sparks). It will be closed for approximately two weeks. A two mile section starting just east of the northbound county line oil road to 416th Avenue is under construction. The county line oil road which goes north to Winner is still open to traffic.
