Nebraska’s 2022 Revenue Receipts up by 30.1%

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Department of Revenue reported that the State’s General Fund receipts for June 2022 were $56 million above forecast. June was the last month of the fiscal year, and Nebraska receipts exceeded the certified forecast every month of fiscal year 2022.

UNMC students participate in Rural Fellows Program

Lincoln, July 13, 2022 - Public health has long been a concern for rural America. In Nebraska, 34 counties have no hospitals within their borders, 14 of which don’t even have clinics. The 2019 floods and COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted where Nebraska struggles health-wise. However, this summer, the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Nebraska –Lincoln’s Rural Fellows program are teaming up to combat this issue.

Mosquitoes found with West Nile in Hall County

Lincoln - A mosquito trap site located in Hall County recently collected mosquitoes that tested positive for West Nile virus. This is the first confirmed positive test of mosquitoes in Nebraska. Mosquito surveillance and testing gives the local health district, along with other health departments, an early indicator of where the virus may be circulating and provides valuable information where people may come into contact with mosquitoes carrying the virus.

Applications for Emergency Rental Assistance available

LINCOLN – The State of Nebraska has funds remaining through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP). The ERAP funds are available to eligible individuals who need assistance paying prospective rent, back rent, and certain utilities – including gas, water, sewage, electricity, and internet assistance. The program will continue to accept applications through September 9, 2022.

“The 2012 fire season opened the eyes of a lot of firefighters, fire departments, members of the state and the public to the importance and need of being prepared, staying vigilant, trainings and funding. We don’t have a big fire season every single year, but people realized that when we do, these things are crucial. The 2012 fires were very educational for everyone,” said Justin Nickless, Fire Management Specialist at the Nebraska Forest Service and Assistant Chief for the Ainsworth Volunteer Fire Department.

Burn Ban notice for Cherry County

A burn ban has been issued for Cherry County effective July 14, 2022. The ban primarily applies to permit required open burns such as brush piles, leaves, etc. All burn permits will remain suspended until the burn ban has been lifted.
