The weather was the topic of conversation for many this past week. The winds seem relentless, and as one rancher told me “it just wears on you”. I believe it! On Friday, Valentine had a high of 97 degrees, and by evening between the heat, the winds and just the atmosphere, it seemed eerie and unsettling. Many smelled smoke from the Nebraska fires also, and it was just plain spooky. The good news was rain – about .25”, maybe not as much as hoped for, but it’s what we prayed for. We also had a few snowflakes in the air too.

April is Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness month and Sexual Assault Awareness month

“The vast majority of us like to think that evil isn’t going to target us; yet 99 percent are going to be targeted by violence, either by watching it, or being a part of it. That includes right here in noman’s land,” said Valentine Police Chief Dana Miller. “It includes a lot of things...watching you get your butt whipped, or getting beat-up yourself. Most of the time it’s not the bad guy across the street; it could be someone you know or are living with.”

Burn Ban notice for Cherry County

Cherry County Emergency Management has issued a burn ban that was effective as of April 16, 2022. The ban primarily applies to required permits for open burns such as brush piles, leaves, etc.. All burn permits will remain suspended until the burn ban has been lifted.
