Collaboration brings Homecare Cooperative Academy to Nebraska

Lincoln-The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Nebraska Cooperative Development Center is collaborating with the Northwest Cooperative Development Center, based in Olympia, WA, to create an online academy that walks rural communities through creating homecare co-ops in their communities. The six-session academy begins May 4 and runs weekly through June 8. Sessions will be available on Zoom for free.

Divine Grace

Our church family grows as friends invite friends; and one day, eight years ago, was to be a new friend day for me. Have you ever met someone you didn’t want to leave? That’s how I felt about Hildreth. She had come alone to our home church by driving herself on that Sunday at the ripe young age of 80. During our delightful chat I learned that she had a master’s degree; and that she became a single mom (widowed) when her younger child was two years old. Heartbroken over her husband’s death, Hildreth determined to move her young family from their Jamaican home to New York.

Back on my feet

I wonder if my columns are a jinx. The past two columns I’ve written were about health issues. Well, here comes another one, but while the two previous columns were about elected stays in the hospital, this latest one was not.

Gov. Ricketts Signs Legislation to Strengthen Nebraska’s Water Resources

LINCOLN – Monday, April 18, 2022, Governor Pete Ricketts hosted bill signings for LB 1015 and LB 1023e at the State Capitol. LB 1015 authorizes construction of a canal and reservoir system to protect South Platte River water flowing into Nebraska from Colorado. LB 1023e approves water projects put forward by the Legislature’s Statewide Tourism and Recreational Water Access and Resource Sustainability (STAR WARS) Committee.

Nebraska ranks 46th in least struggling state ranking by WalletHub

With the labor force participation rate at 62.4 percent, one of the lowest rates in decades, WalletHub released updated data on 2022’s States Where Employers Are Struggling the Most in Hiring. In order to see where employers are struggling the most in hiring, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on the rate of job openings for both the latest month and the last 12 months.

Reported Offenses On 04/14/2022 at 4:45 p.m., an officer fielded a report of a theft of a catalytic converter from property in the 200 block of West Highway 20. On 04/15/2022 at 12:29 p.m., an officer responded to a non-injury accident at 3rd and Cherry Streets.

Using emergency tillage to control wind erosion

High winds lasting for multiple days combined with long-term dry conditions have created the “perfect storm” for soil erosion to develop across Nebraska. The erosion is visible in moving and drifted soil and should be controlled before more topsoil and crops are lost.

Budgeting basics

Since school will be out soon and the kids will be home for the summer, families are concerned how they are going to stretch the family’s money. Creating a budget and following it can be helpful! The word “budgeting” often gets a negative first reaction, but in fact, this process and the resulting budget are quite beneficial.
