Out of darkness and suffering comes new life

The message of Easter – the Resurrection of Jesus – takes us beyond the Cross to the joy and hope that comes from seeing the Risen Lord. It was Christ risen who allowed his disciples to fully know that God exists, that there is a future for every human being and that our cry for unending life is indeed answered in Him. This is the true message of Easter!

The beauty and triumph of Jesus

Many of us have heard the old saying, “Do not judge a book by its cover.” The understanding is that things may not always be as they appear. When it comes to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that thought would apply. Good Friday is a celebration now, but which serious followers of Christ could have found a reason to celebrate in that moment. Jesus endured a brutal beating. The abuse inflicted on Him proved extreme; He was beaten with rods, beaten with whips, they pulled out His beard, they drove a crown of thorns into His skull and all of that before He endured the vicious crucifixion.

Building a Bridge

Just three years ago historic floods swept away 27 bridges across the state of Nebraska. The final bridge to be rebuilt now spans the Niobrara River on Highway 281 between Spencer and O’Neil. According to Equipmentworld.com, Spencer residents had to use a 127-mile detour for four months until a temporary bridge could be installed. The article also states that the cost for that one project alone was $25.5 million.

His miracle of defeating death

I told our church family a true story the other day about a lady who was working on a copy machine. This took place 20+ years ago at a church in southern Nebraska.

Don’t leave without Hope!

“Don’t leave without Hope!” That was the main message of a funeral sermon during this past year. Maybe some of you were there. A young woman in our church was struggling with cancer. During that struggle she got a dog that she wanted to take to the hospitals to encourage the people there. She named it Hope. One Sunday after church she was talking to her mom, and going on a trip. She had the dog in the car, and her mom was going to take care of it. So she said to her mom, “Don’t leave without Hope.” Now she was referring to her dog, but I heard those words, and stopped and told them. “That is exactly right, don’t leave church without Hope!”
