Blooming flowers and leaves budding on trees also add some awe-inspiring color back into the landscape. 22nd National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, April 30

Earth Day is quickly approaching, and it is a great reminder to do some Spring cleaning. As we look to ways to improve our environment inside and out, the Poison Center encourages you to check your cabinets, cupboards, and bags to find any expired, unwanted, or unused medications. Timely disposal of prescription and over the counter medicines can reduce the risk of others taking the medications accidentally or misusing the medications. Keep your medications in their original containers, locked up, and stored out of sight. Call your local poison center for more information about medication safety.

Be aware of the dangers associated with Fentanyl

Fentanyl is making a huge impact on the world of drugs. It is being illicitly manufactured and people are taking it with out knowing. Fentanyl is 50-100 times more potent than heroin and can be absorbed through the skin.

City Council approves purchase of K9 in next fiscal year

The Valentine City Council met for their regular meeting, Thursday, April 14, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was held in the Library Meeting Room with the following in attendance: City Clerk Deanna Schmit, City Manager Shane Siewert, Council members Ross Brockley, Dave Dent, Neil Wescott, Kalli Kieborz, and Kyle Arganbright.

Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, youth participated in a candy hunt at the Valentine City Park at 2:00 p.m. Hosting the event was American Legion Post 90. With winds gusting as high as 43 mph it made hunting for candy a cool, quick, endeavor.

April is Child Abuse Prevention month otherwise known as CAP. It is a time to make the public aware of the prolific abuse that is going on in an underage child’s life.

83rd SCA to be held May 26-27 in Atkinson

For 83 years, the Sandhills Cattle Association has been holding its annual Membership Meeting. Over the years, we’ve added a trade show, cattle contests, educational speakers, and entertainment. This year we will be moving our annual Convention and Trade Show back to the Spring and holding it May 26-27 at the Atkinson Community Center in Atkinson. Since it is just around the corner, we’d like to invite you and your family to enjoy a couple of days of fun in the Sandhills of Nebraska.

VHS hosts art show; included several area schools

Valentine High School hosted an art show that had everything from ceramic, printmaking, pencil drawings, acrylic, digital art, sculpture, collage, mixed media, water colors, acrylic, and everything in between on display Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
