Nebraska authorities rescue hostage, capture escaped inmate

GRAND ISLE, Neb. (AP) _ Law enforcement authorities on Saturday rescued a 60-year-old man who had been taken hostage by an escaped inmate, capturing the inmate and peacefully ending a standoff at an apartment which lasted hours, police said.

Ranchers, Sen. Rounds wait for answers on compromise bill

Billings, Mont.- Cattle producers have raised questions about the details included in the compromised Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act of 2021 (S.3229), known as the Fischer-Grassley compromise bill. Producers’ concerns have thus far been largely ignored, but now Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.Dak.), is raising the same questions.

Highway Construction update

The current controlling operation for construction of this project is now Utilities Work – sanitary sewer. Midlands Contracting, Inc., is planning to mobilize two crews onto the IN VALENTINE project with one working on sanitary sewer and the other crew working on storm sewer placement. Expect mobilization to begin with 10+ semi loads of equipment and materials to be delivered to the work area. Preparations are being made to begin work April 4.

The birds were seen on March 20 in the city of McCook, by a Purple Martin enthusiast – one of many throughout the eastern and central United States who track and report on the birds’ annual migration on behalf of the Purple Martin Conservation Association.

Valentine Police Department Week in review, March 13-19, 2022

On 03/13/2022 at 1:37 p.m., an officer responded to the 100 block of West Highway 20 for a report of a stolen pickup. The pickup was recovered by the Cherry County Sheriff’s Office. A 25 year old South Dakota male was found to be in possession of the pickup. An arrest was made.

Gering man arrested in stolen firearm investigation

MARCH 22, 2022 (SCOTTS-BLUFF, NEB.) — Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested a Gering man following an investigation into firearms stolen from the Minatare Police Department. Tuesday afternoon, investigators arrested Bryan Martinez, 32, at his residence in Gering.
