Matteo Milton, son of Kyle and Haley Milton of North Platte, was baptized at the Lakeview Church on Sunday. Joining Jay and Myndi Gunnink for dinner afterward were Kyle and Haley Milton, Leo and Matteo, Russ and Mardi Milton of Chadron, Ashley Bailey and family of North Platte and Cassie and Shane LaFortune and family. Congratulations!

Multiple fires ignite last week

With dry weather, gusty winds, and no snow cover, the area fire departments have been busy. Monday, March 21, 2022, was a red flag warning day with winds gusting up to 51 mph, a high of 53 degrees, and a low relative humidity that resulted in a fire that occurred on the Winner Cut Across Road.

Branding School to be held April 27

The Sandhills Cattle Association, Nebraska Beef Quality Assurance, and Nebraska Extension – Beef Systems have teamed up for the first-ever “Branding School.” This event brings content that will be beneficial for producers before their next branding.

VanWinkle graduates from FBI National Academy at Quantico

Raelee VanWinkle, a native of Valentine, and the daughter of Myki and Jim VanWinkle recently graduated from the FBI National Academy at Quantico, VA. The FBI National Academy is recognized around the world as the most prestigious law enforcement management course for the United States and international law enforcement managers.

SCHOLAR OF THE WEEK

Sheldyn Rodgers has been outstanding in Math this year. Sheldyn has posted three straight perfect scores on Algebra tests and to top it off she posted a 15 point increase on her MAPS tests. Sheldyn always asks questions to help herself and her classmates understand concepts, and is part of a competitive group of students in her class when it comes to finding out who has the correct answer each class period. Good job Sheldyn and keep up the good work.

BADGER OF THE WEEK

I would like to nominate Kassity Denbo for Badger of the Week for being selected as a State Finalist for her Vet Science Proficiency. Kassity has worked for Butler Vet Clinic while in high school and this year her application has been selected in the top three in the State of Nebraska. She will interview at State FFA in April, attend a banquet, and finally get recognized on stage at Pinnacle Bank Arena!

Family Fun Fellowship

The First Baptist Church, 209 N. Green St. will host a Family Fun Fellowship Sunday, March 27, 5:00-6:30 p.m. Please come join us as we fellowship together around an awesome free evening meal. Following the meal we will be teaching the children the true meaning of Easter with story and drama. We will end our time together with a fun game. Adults are encouraged to participate.

Schedule for Sermons-a-la-Carte

The Valentine Ministerial Association will be hosting Sermons-ala-Carte. The service starts at 12:00 noon at the Episcopal Church, 372 N. Main St. Service ends at 12:30 followed by food and fellowship in the Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall Those who need to get back to work by 1:00 p.m. are invited to go through the line first.

Building Up Others

“Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.” Romans 14:19 NIV The dictionary defines “edify” as “to instruct especially so as to encourage intellectual, moral, or spiritual improvement.” (The American Heritage Dictionary, 4th ed.) The word comes from the Latin word aedificare, meaning to build, from whence we get the word edifice, and thus we are not far off when we say that we edify when we build others up rather than tear them down. But how best to edify our brothers and sisters? Perhaps the simplest and most direct way is to encourage them, especially when they are struggling.
