Finley Mosner, Junior, Speech Finley is a natural speaker and presenter! She picked up a new event this speech season and it has been a great change. Finley’s ability to speak the words and make you feel the emotion of her pieces is outstanding.

Logan Muirhead, Junior Logan Muirhead has been a fantastic student in American History this year as he is always participating and putting forth his best efforts in everything that he does. He is not afraid to ask questions and applies himself to the topics we discuss.

Will Sprenger, Sophomore, Wrestling Will Sprenger was the State runner-up in Omaha. Will had two pins and a major decision on his way to the finals.

Rose of the Sandhills award presented to Mary Eatinger

The Sand Painter Art Guild’s most prestigious award, Rose of the Sandhills, has been presented to Mary Eatinger of Thedford. Mary is a long-standing supporting member and artist in the Sand Painters Art Guild of Valentine.

Schedule for Sermons-a-la-Carte

The Valentine Ministerial Association will be hosting Sermons-a-la-Carte. The service starts at 12:00 noon at the Episcopal Church, 372 N. Main St. Service ends at 12:30 followed by food and fellowship in the Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall Those who need to get back to work by 1:00 p.m. are invited to go through the line first.

Students invited to submit calendar contest entries

LINCOLN-The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy has sent invitations to schools across the state seeking students’ entries for the 2023 “Nebraska: Don’t Waste It!” environmental calendar. The contest is open to all Nebraska students from grades K through 12, and the submission deadline is May 2, 2022.

OMAHA,(AP)-The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing has received a $2.2 million federal grant to address burnout among the state’s nurses as the coronavirus pandemic stretches into a third year.

NDA advises poultry owners to watch for Avian Influenza

LINCOLN –The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) is advising poultry owners to protect their flocks against avian influenza by closely monitoring their birds for signs of the disease and by maintaining strict biosecurity practices. Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is very contagious and can cause severe illness and/or sudden death in domestic birds. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has confirmed HPAI in commercial and/or backyard flocks in Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, New York and Virginia. To date, the virus has not been found in Nebraska.
