March is Red Cross Month - Donate March 3

March is Red Cross Month, and for more than 130 years, heroic American Red Cross volunteers have provided hope and urgent relief to families in communities across the country. This March, the community is invited to join in the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross and be someone’s hero by rolling up a sleeve to give blood March 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m at St. Nicholas Catholic Church Parish Hall.

Robins galore!

by Gordon Warrick You might have noticed the large flocks of robins flying around the area the last couple of months (one observer estimated over 3,750 recently). Robins are not really a harbinger of an early spring in Nebraska, but their high numbers may be a consequence of a mild winter.

UNMC team ties microRNA to methamphetamine use relapse

Methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) is associated with chronic inflammation in the brain. It also has a very high relapse rate – a recent University of Nebraska-Lincoln study reports that meth use and overdose deaths are rising in rural parts of the state.

Manufacturer Abbott recalls powdered infant formulas

Lincoln – Amid a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigation and four consumer complaints related to Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella Newport in its Sturgis, Mich. m a n u - facturing plant, infant formula manufacturer Abbott has recalled several varieties of powdered formulas, including some that are used by Nebraska’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Programs for Women, Infants, and Children, better known as WIC.

Dan and Sheri Tinant attended the February 13 Coronation at Valentine High School. They enjoyed watching granddaughter Tylee TInant participate in the dance routine, Kennedie Assman was a freshman candidate and Mataya Morrison a sophomore candidate. A great tradition continues!
